Lisa Geyser, Families Giving Back Co-Founder & Community Volunteer.

What is the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
My husband Jeff and I are Chairing the inaugural Dinner For Dignity to benefit Central Arizona Shelter Services. We hope this dinner will be the first step of involvement for the donors and volunteers to help CASS continue to fight for the homeless families, veterans, children and elderly in AZ.

What failure did you learn the most from and what did you learn?
I continue to remind myself not to overcommit. My heart is big and I want to help whenever asked, but I am still only one person and do not do my best work when spreading myself too thin. Having two young boys and a husband, I want to make sure I am always there for them first.

What is your go-to strategy in moments of self doubt?
My husband Jeff is someone I always turn to for advice. He knows me better than anyone else and always listens to any issues that I have. His advice is always well-thought out, helpful and truly gives me another way of looking at situations. He’s like my live in Dear Abby!

Who or what are you most grateful for?
My family….my family…my family. When I have a rough day, the only thing I want to do is go home and snuggle with my boys. My parents and my sisters in Utah are always a phone call away as well. They have been known to fly out to surprise me a time or two as well! Family is EVERYTHING to me!

How do you recharge?
I recharge by having date night with my husband Jeff. Date night can happen any night of the week on the couch with a movie and a glass of wine. No phones, no interruptions. Every Saturday night since November of 2006 (when our first son Alex was born), Jeff and I have a night out.

Favorite inspirational quote:
“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve done with those accomplishments. Its about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It about what you’ve given back”. By Denzel Washington
