Kristen Salcito Sandquist, Philanthropist and International Mountain Guide.
What is the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
Sharing our goals with others. We are currently booking trips for 2017 that will focus on community service in our orphanages in Peru and Tanzania along with visiting the ruins of Machu Pichu and climbing Kili or going on a safari. Both orphanages serve disabled children from birth to 17 years old.

What failure did you learn the most from and what did you learn?
K2 Adventures Foundation is my 3rd non-profit in 20 years. My biggest failure is “fear” of not raising enough funds to support the missions that I have started with local individuals and international orphanages. I would feel like I failed if I couldn’t serve someone that needed my help.
What is your go-to strategy in moments of self doubt?
Reflecting on all the successes and all the lives we have changed in the United States, Peru and Tanzania. Kyle Maynard winning an ESPY and being featured in a Nike commercial or a medical center built in Tanzania to care for the orphans. Changing the perception of “Disability into Possibility”.
Who or what are you most grateful for?
The support I receive from my family/friends. My husband and children have been to Tanzania and Peru with me along with over 600 clients to visit the orphanages and climb. I know that our trips change peoples lives and I am grateful for the trust that our clients have in my business partner and me.
How do you recharge?
I hike…and hike…and hike…This is my time to collect my thoughts and plan my next challenge. I enjoy hiking with my business partner Kevin and other friends. It’s the perfect “office” outside of the real office. It also helps keep me in shape for guiding on Kilimanjaro and around the world.
