Inspired Life: Lori Goldberg

Lori Goldberg, Founder and President of Global Family Philanthropy & Chicks4Children.

What is the most exciting thing you are working on right now? The most exciting thing I’m working on now, and have been for a while, is the Global Family medical clinic. It is very exciting to me and everyone who supports GFP to see this project at an advanced stage. Health care in Haiti is very limited, and practically unavailable for most. The GFP medical clinic is in Malfety, a populous but rural area near the border of the Dominican Republic. We’ve been working on the medical clinic for two and a half years and have finally been able to bring doctors and nurses in to provide examinations for people that live nearby.

What failure did you learn the most from and what did you learn? I’ve learned so much through my work in Haiti. When GFP was first founded I thought many of my American sensibilities would create easy solutions, which proved false. I quickly realized how important it was for me to accept and embrace the Haitian culture by asking more questions and listening to their answers. It was important for me to learn to not impose what I think is right, but to work with people in Haiti to find the most effective solution.

What is your go-to strategy in moments of self doubt? My go-to strategy in moments of self doubt is to turn to my family and friends. My husband, Seth, provides me with almost all the self reassurance I would ever need. My children and friends also reassure me and lift me up when I begin to feel down.

Who or what are you most grateful for? I am most grateful for my family, friends and animals. All of which bring me happiness everyday.

How do you recharge? I recharge by going outdoors and connecting with nature. The best way for me to recharge is a trip to the beach. I find the ocean very relaxing and love swimming and walking along the beach.
